2010s
The history of the LGBT rights movement and the journey to legalizing same-sex marriage in Taiwan can be traced back to the 1980s. Thanks to the foundations laid by gender equity education, public support for same-sex marriage has consistently been above 50 percent since 2015. On May 17, 2019, the Taiwanese Parliament approved a bill legalizing same-sex marriage, making Taiwan the first country in Asia to adopt such legislation. |
